The headline says Irish engineers tore down a Tesla. We went looking for that teardown, and the real story leads somewhere much closer to home. Subscribe for more Irish innovation stories, explained like a case file. In 2018, an engineering firm in Michigan bought a brand new Tesla Model 3 and took it apart, piece by piece. Around six thousand hours on one car. What they found on the outside was not flattering. What they found on the inside changed the tone completely. In this video we open the case file on that teardown: the body, the electronics, the battery cells that were almost perfectly matched, and the Model Y that swapped about seventy metal pieces for just two castings. Then we follow the two problems the teardown exposed, the battery and the cameras, all the way to Tullamore in County Offaly and Tuam in County Galway. And the honest twist: no Irish team published a Tesla teardown. But Irish engineers are working on exactly what that teardown found. ⚡ In this video: 0:00 The teardown we went looking for 0:28 Michigan, 2018: a new Model 3, taken apart 0:53 The body that did not impress 1:18 Inside the electronics 1:41 The battery cells: "staggeringly close" 2:06 Model Y: seventy pieces become two 2:47 Why this matters in Ireland: Tullamore 3:31 The container that drains EV batteries 3:58 Tuam: where car cameras learn to see 4:39 Tesla, the NSAI and self-driving in Ireland 4:53 The real story behind the headline The shocking part is not what is inside the car.
