The High-Stakes Presidency of JFK (1960-1963) | Full Documentary | American Experience PBS

The youngest president ever elected — and his untimely fate. Forever enshrined in myth by an assassin's bullet, Kennedy's presidency long defied objective appraisal. Recent assessments have revealed an administration long on promise and vigor, and somewhat lacking in tangible accomplishment. His proposals for a tax cut and civil rights legislation, however, promised significant gains in the months before his assassination. While maturation, as evidenced in the handling of the Cuban missile crisis, was apparent, the potential legacy of the New Frontier will forever be left to speculation. JFK is narrated by Oliver Platt. PART TWO (1961-1963) covers the two and a half-year term of America's 35th President. Just three months after his election, JFK faces his first fiasco with an embarrassing failed attack on Cuba which came to be known as the Bay of Pigs. At home, Kennedy must address a growing civil rights movement, and abroad, the Cold War is intensifying. It comes to a crescendo with the Cuban Missile Crisis, but after the US successfully avoids a nuclear war, JFK feels new confidence. He gives several important speeches on civil rights and the cold war, and he negotiates an agreement on a nuclear test ban. On November 22, 1963 Kennedy is assassinated during a campaign trip in Dallas, Texas. 🎥 Watch PART ONE here:    • Before the Oval Office: JFK's Rise to Powe...   Official Website: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexpe... | #ThePresidentsPBS © 2013 WGBH Educational Foundation 00:00 Introduction: The Promise of JFK’s Unfinished Presidency 03:36 JFK’s Inauguration (1961)and The New Frontier 07:45 Jacqueline Kennedy and Staging The Style Of Camelot 09:16 Shaping the Modern Presidency: JFK’s Televised Press Conferences and Cabinet Appointments 13:12 Flexible Response Strategy: JFK’s Cold War Foreign Policy 16:19 JFK and Cuba: The Bay Of Pigs Invasion and Fidel Castro 25:36 JFK and the Freedom Riders 30:39 JFK Launches the Peace Corps and the Space Race 32:47 Kennedy Meets Kruschev (Vienna Summit, June 1961) and Soviet Nuclear Testing 41:27 JFK and the War in Vietnam 45:17 JFK’s Struggles with Addison's Disease 47:30 Jackie Kennedy’s White House Restoration Project 52:56JFK’s Scandalous Private Life 55:37 The 1962 Midterm Elections 59:22 The Cuban Missile Crisis and Threat Of Nuclear War 01:14:37 JFK’s Post-Crisis Diplomacy 01:16:27 Caroline Kennedy, JFK Jr., and Fatherhood in the White House 01:19:55 The Civil Rights Movement Birmingham Campaign (1963) 01:26:58 JFK’s American University Peace Speech and National Civil Rights Address 01:32:05 JFK’s Triumphal Tour of West Berlin and Homecoming In Ireland 01:35:21 JFK’s Final Summer: Political Success and Personal Tragedy 01:39:25 JFK’s Escalation inVietnam 01:43:02 Why was JFK in Dallas in November 1963? 01:46:55 he Assassination Of John F.
